On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8L engine, degradation of the front rocker cover gasket may result in eventual oil seepage. Under hard braking, drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond. An under-hood fire could result in injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will remove the spark plug wire retention channel at the front of the engine and install two new-revised spark plug wire retainers. For vehicles with the 3.8L V6 Supercharged engine (RPO L67), dealers will also replace the front (left hand) rocker cover gasket.
Certain ambulance or fire package vehicles with 6.7L diesel engines may experience a "stop safety now" warning message and 5 audible chimes if an Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor fault is detected. Engine torque would be gradually reduced by 70 percent over a period of 45 seconds to a power-reduced level that is maintained. During this time, there would be no effect on steering, braking, lighting, electrical, or restraint systems, allowing the operator to maneuver the vehicle to a safe location. Such an occurrence could also result in an engine shut down and subsequent inability to quickly restart the vehicle. If this condition were to occur when an ambulance or fire engine vehicle was transporting a patient or providing medical assistance, it could delay medical treatment and increase the risk of injury to the patient.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module with updated software.
On certain vehicles, during assembly, some of the connecting rod bolts may not have been torqued to the correct specification. If a connecting rod bolt was not torqued correctly, it could loosen and result in the engine making an unusual rattling/knocking noise, leaking oil, and/or engine failure. Engine failure would result in a loss of motive power, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) is recalling all model year 2013 Can-Am Spyder RT motorcycles. Prolonged idling or slow speed riding in warmer temperatures may result very high temperatures in the engine compartment.
Safety Risk
Very high temperatures in the engine compartment may increase the risk of skin burns or a vehicle fire.
Remedy
BRP has notified owners. Dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2015. Owners may contact BRP customer service at 1-888-272-9222.
On certain vehciles, bolts which fix the big end bearing caps onto the engine connecting rod may not have been torqued to the correct specification and could loosen. This would result in unusual knocking noises from the engine compartment. If the vehicle was to be operated in this condition, the engine could seize and stall, causing a loss of motive power as well as a loss of power steering and power brake assist. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
On certain vehicles, exhaust components may overheat while the vehicle is idling in cold temperatures. This could cause nearby plastic components to overheat and melt, possibly resulting in smoke and/or fire and increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
On certain vehicles equipped with four-cylinder diesel engines, the timing chain tensioner gasket could fail, causing an oil leak. If the vehicle is operated in this condition, this could cause engine failure, which would result in a loss of motive power. Oil leaking onto hot engine surfaces could also increase the risk of a fire. These issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
