On certain four-wheel drive vehicles, the joint portion of the front driveshaft may contain small cracks. These cracks may eventually lead to a failure, resulting in separation of the front driveshaft. If the driveshaft failed while the vehicle was moving, a loud noise would be heard. If the vehicle were in 2WD mode, the driveshaft would come to rest on the frame cross-member, and the vehicle could be operated normally. The driveshaft would not come in contact with brake, steering or fuel system components, therefore the risk of a crash is considered minimal.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the front driveshaft if necessary.
On certain motorcycles, the major graduations of the speedometer face are shown at 30 km/h intervals instead of 20 or 10 km/h as required by Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The non-compliance does not affect safety of the vehicle or of the rider.
On certain vehicles, the centrally-located tailpipe extension protrudes slightly beyond the rear bumper. As a consequence, it is possible for inadvertent contact with a person's leg. It the tailpipe is hot during contact, a burn could occur.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the tailpipe extension with a new, shortened version.
On certain motorcycles, crash forces or hazardous maneuvers such as extreme or extended wheelies or other stunts causing extreme stress to the frame can result in frame cracking or breakage behind and below the steering neck, while ordinary vehicle operation does not create a risk of such frame cracking or breakage. Suzuki believes that this issue does not constitute a "defect" within the meaning of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act because such extreme maneuvers are far outside the ordinary and reasonable operation of the vehicles involved. However, as a precautionary measure for the sake of owners and operators, Suzuki has voluntarily decided to conduct this safety improvement campaign.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Frame will be inspected for cracks behind and below the steering neck. If no cracks are found, a lightweight, aluminum reinforcement brace will be attached to the frame. Should cracks be found during the inspection, the frame will be replaced with a new frame that has the reinforcement brace installed.
On certain vehicles equipped with a 7.3L diesel engine, the camshaft position sensor may fail, causing the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the camshaft position sensor.
On certain vehicles, the hole in the sheetmetal front bulkhead that serves as the base and pivot point for the hood support rod may not have been punched to specifications during the manufacturing process. If the hood support rod hole fails, the hood could fall, potentially injuring someone working in the engine compartment. Note: All vehicles were inspected before retail sale. None were found to be out of specification.
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE HOOD RESTRAINT CYLINDER DOES NOT CONTAIN ENOUGH DAMPENING TO ADEQUATELY RESTRAIN THE HOOD.
Safety Risk
THE CYLINDERS COULD POSSIBLY SEPARATE, WHICH WOULD LEAVE THE HOOD UNRESTRAINED WHEN OPENING AND CLOSING THE HOOD.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HOOD RESTRAINT CYLINDERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 15, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO TRUCKS AT 1-800-528-6586.
On certain vehicles the left or right front supplemental airbag sensors may crack under certain conditions, which can allow water to enter into the sensor. This can cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate. A malfunction of one or both of the supplemental sensors will not adversely affect safety or cause a failure to comply with government standards. The single-point sensor in these vehicles, which is located in the airbag control module, is operational even if both supplemental sensors are inoperative. DaimlerChrysler has decided to launch a Customer Satisfaction Notification to advise customers that these front airbag sensors will be replaced with redesigned sensors to reduce the potential for damage. This action is not being conducted under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
ON CERTAIN MINI VANS, THERE IS A SEAT ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM THAT CONTAINS EXPOSED MOVING COMPONENTS LOCATED AT THE REAR INSIDE EDGE OF THE SECOND ROW SEAT.
Safety Risk
WHEN THE OPERATOR ATTEMPTS SEAT ADJUSTMENT, A FINGER MAY BE PINCHED IN THE MOVING SEAT ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM WHICH COULD CAUSE AN INJURY.
Remedy
ON EARLIER MODEL VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH JUNE 28, 2004, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE INBOARD SECOND ROW SEAT ADJUSTMENT HANDLE, RIVET A PLASTIC REINFORCEMENT TO BACKSIDE OF THE EXISTING SEAT BACK COVER CARPETING, INSTALL TIE-DOWNS AND A FLANGE TO THE INBOARD SIDE SHIELD. ON VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM JUNE 29, 2004 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 26, 2005, DEALERS WILL RIVET A PLASTIC REINFORCEMENT TO THE BACKSIDE OF THE EXISTING SEAT BACK COVER CARPETING, INSTALL TIE-DOWNS AND A FLANGE ON THE INBOARD SIDE SHIELD. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 19, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
On certain vehicles, the trunk lid springs could fail in the closed trunk lid position due to extensive exposure to very high temperatures. This failure only occurs in the closed position and causes the trunk lid to fail to spring open upon being unlocked, thereby providing warning to the owner of the broken spring condition.
On certain vehicles, there is a potential for excessive static build-up in the trunk floor mats of the subject vehicles. The static build-up can cause a static discharge when individuals move or remove items from the trunk compartment, which can damage the electrical system components located in the trunk including the vehicle's battery.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will install a static insulation material between the carpet and the battery.
On certain vehicles, unfavourable production tolerances in ignition switch components and premature wear and tear may have contributed to the rate of malfunction of the switch.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will replace the ignition switch in affected vehicles with an improved switch.
