A safety defect may exist in aftermarket steering linkage equipment sold as service replacement parts for 2500 and 3500 4x4 pickup trucks. If the drag link assemblies in question were installed improperly, the left tie rod ball stud may fracture, potentially resulting in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Chrysler will notify owners of all 2003-2008 Dodge Ram heavy duty trucks (other than those covered by recall 2013-397 (N49)) since those vehicles could potentially have had the affected linkages installed during service. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer for inspection and repair if required. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2009-019 (H46). Parts replaced under the previous campaign will also need to be replaced under this campaign.

Safety Risk
THE VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCES CAN BE INCREASED POSSIBLY RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AIR INTAKE DUCT AND VALVE ASSEMBLY WITH REVISED UNITS.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS). A PRESSURE CONSCIOUS REDUCING VALVE (PCRV) IN THE REAR BRAKES MAY BE SUBJECT TO CORROSION AND RESULT IN MALFUNCTION, WHEN OPERATED IN AREAS THAT USE SALT COMPOUNDS ON THE ROADWAY FOR DE-ICING OR DUST CONTROL.
Safety Risk
IF BOTH PCRV'S MALFUNCTION, VEHICLE HANDLING COULD BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED DURING BRAKING AS A RESULT OF THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL IMPROVED PCRV'S IN THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS RECALL WAS EXPANDED IN SEPTEMBER 2000 TO INCLUDE 1999 AND 2000 FORD CONTOUR, MERCURY MYSTIQUE AND COUGAR VEHICLES.
SOME SEDAN TYPE AXLES WERE INSTALLED IN STATION WAGONS AND VICE VERSA. SEDANS MIGHT EXPERIENCE EARLY WHEEL LOCK-UP DURING BRAKING AND STATION WAGONS WOULD EXPERIENCE REDUCED BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS. STATION WAGONS MIGHT ALSO FAIL TO MEET THE BRAKE FADE REQUIREMENTS OF C.M.V.S.S. 105 - HYDRAULIC BRAKES.
THE TRANSMISSION FLUID RUBBER TUBE CONNECTING THE TRANSMISSION TO THE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LOCATED IN THE RADIATOR CAN BECOME DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION, RESULTING IN DISCHARGE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID.
Safety Risk
THE DISCHARGED FLUID COULD CONTACT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDOR THE EXHAUST PIPE, RESULTING IN A FIRE.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REVISED LINE AND TRANSMISSION OUTLET TUBE.
ON VEHICLES WITH 4 CYLINDER ENGINES, WATER MAY FREEZE IN THE ACCELERATOR CONTROL CABLE CONDUIT DURING COLD WEATHER. THIS WOULD CAUSE HIGH ACCELERATOR PEDAL EFFORT OR CABLE BINDING WHICH IN TURN COULD RESULT IN THE THROTTLE NOT RETURNING TO IDLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
ACCELERATOR CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.

On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition switch could allow the switch to move out of the "run" position if the key ring is carrying added weight or the vehicle goes off-road or is subjected to some other jarring event. If this were to occur, engine power, power steering and power braking would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The timing of the key movement out of the “run” position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm of the crash event, may also result in the airbags not deploying in a subsequent collision, increasing the risk of injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
For each key, dealers will install two key rings and modify the key ring opening shape.
