DUE TO A PLASTIC WASHER INTERFERING WITH THE FRONT SEAT BELT ANCHOR BOLTS, THE ANCHOR BOLTS WERE NOT SUFFICIENTLY TORQUED. THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS OF THE ANCHOIR BOLTS LOOSENING ENOUGH TO BE STRIPPED OUT OF THEIR THREADED SEATS WHEN SUBJECTED TO THE FORCE OF A COLLISION.
THE WHEEL RIM SIDE RING ON THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MATCHED DURING PRODUCTION THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE SIDE RING MAY COME OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, REULTING IN POSSIBLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT, PERSONAL INJURY OR PORPERTY DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE LOSS OF THE TIM PIECES.
VEHICLES MAY HAVE A DEFORMED INNER HOOD PANEL WHICH COULD CAUSE MISALIGNMENT OF THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH. A MISALIGNED SECONDARY LATCH MAY HAVE INSUFFICIENT ENGAGEMENT, AND IN THE EVENT THAT THE PRIMARY HOOD LATCH WAS NOT ENGAGED, COULD NOT PREVENT THE HOOD FROM OPENING DURING HIGH SPEED DRIVING.
THE NYLON AUXILIARY FUEL TANK SENDING AND RETURN LINES MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED DURING ASSEMBLY BY THE LEFT FRONT FASTENERS WHICH ATTACH THE NO. 5 FRAME CROSSMEMBERS TO THE FRAME SIDE RAILS. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE NO. 5 CROSSMEMBER FASTENERS MAY BE LOOSE OR MISSING ON A FEW SHORT-WHEELBASE TRUCKS. THE NO. 5 CROSSMEMBER PROVIDES THE FRONT ATTACHMENT FOR THE AUXILIARY FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAPS. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, LOOSE OR MISSING FASTENERS MAY NOT ADEQUATELY RETAIN THE CROSSMEMBER AND THEREFORE THE FUEL TANK, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR FUEL TANK DAMAGE.
THE FRONT WHEEL INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES WAS IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED. THESE DEFECTIVE WHEELS MAY DEVELOP CRACKS WHERE THE SPOKES JOIN THE CENTER HUB PORTION OF THE WHEEL. RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE OVER ROUGH PAVEMENT ON BUMPS, HARD APPLICATION OF THE FRONT BRAKES, OR HEAVY LOADING OF THE MOTORCYCLE COULD ACCELERATE THE FORMATION OF THE CRACKS. THE DEFECTIVE WHEELS CAN EVENTUALLY FRACTURE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND CRASH.
SOME OF THE VEHCILES AFFECTED BY THE RECALL MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH INCORRECT HOODS - THE INCORRECT HOODS WERE INTENDED FOR USE WITH CONVENTIONAL (NON-TURBO) ENGINES AND MAYNOT PROVIDE A SUFFICIENT CLEARNACE BETWEEN THE THROTTLE LINKAGE AND THE HOOD UNDERSIDES. AS A RESULT, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THE THROTTLE LINKAGE MAY COME IN CONTACT WITH THE HOOD POTENTIALLY CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE LINKAGE AND PREVENTING THE THROTTLE FROM RETURNING TO ITS IDLE POSITION.
SOME OF THE VEHICLES (EQUIPPED WITH 1.6 LITRE ENGINES, CALIBRATION 3-03B-R10) MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT AND SHIPPED WITH EXHAUST AIR SUPPLY AIR CONTROL VALVE HOSES REVERSED. EMISSION LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE, POSSIBLY EXCEEDING THE STANDARDS. bRIVEABILITY SHOULD NOT BE AFFECTED.
SOME ELECTRICAL WIRES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY ROUTED OR SECURED. THIS MAY ALLOW THE WIRES TO COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT COMPONENTS WHICH MAY RESULT IN POTENTIAL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTIONS AND DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM INCLUDING THE REMOTE POSSIBILITY OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE.
THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM BRAKE PIPE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE PROPORTIONER VALVE ON THESE VEHICLES MAY BE CONTACTING THE AIR CLEANER RESONATOR BRACKET. OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF OPERATION, THE BRAKE PIPE COULD WEAR THROUGH SUFFICIENTLY TO CAUSE A LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND A PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING ACTION. IF A VEHICLE HAPPENS TO BE IN MOTION AT A TIME WHEN MINIMUM STOPPING DISTANCE IS REQUIRED, THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 5.7 L. V-8 DIESEL ENGINES.
DUE TO AN INSUFFICIENT HEIGHT DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A DRIVER MIGHT STEP SIMULTANEOUSLY ON BOTH PEDALS AND CONSEQUENTLY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. 1978 - 83 AUDI 5000 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
DUE TO THE SPECIFIC ATTACHMENT OF THE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE BRACKET AT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COVER, THERE IS A RISK OF GRADUAL LOSS OF TRANSMISSION OIL WHICH MAY LEAD TO TRANSMISSION LOCK UP UNLESS THE TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL IS CHECKED FREQUENTLY.
THESE VEHICLES HAVE A FUSIBLE LINK WHICH PROTECTS ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS FED THROUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE FUSIBLE LINK MAY BE SUBJECT TO MAXIMUM ELECTRICAL LOADS DURING OPERATION OF THE REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER. ON SEVILLES EQUIPPED WITH TWILIGHT SENTINEL AN OPEN LINK WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS IF THE TWILIGHT SENTINEL IS "ON" AND THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS "OFF". IF NOT EQUIPPED WITH TWILIGHT SENTINEL, AN OPEN LIN WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF OPERATION OF ALL OTHER IGNITION OPERATED EQUIPMENT.
TWO DOOR MODELS. FATIGUE CRACKS MAY OCCUR IN THE DOOR LOCK PILLARS AT THE FRONT DOOR LATCH STRIKER REINFORCEMENT ATTACHMENT LOCATIONS. THE FATIGUE CRACKS MAY PROPOGATE TO THE EXTENT THAT THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE DOOR LATCH STRIKER ATTACHMENT MAY BE SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED CREATING THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE DOOR MAY NOT BE SECURELY RETAINED. THIS CONDITION IS OBSERVABLE BY VISIBLY NOTICEABLE CRACKS ON THE DOOR LOCK PILLAR ADJACENT TO THE STRIKER ASSEMBLIES.
