The 2000 Acura RL has 5 recalls, the most serious being a brake master cylinder that can corrode internally, reducing braking performance and potentially causing complete brake failure.
Two recalls cover the driver's frontal airbag inflator. In a crash requiring airbag deployment, the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin toward the driver or other occupants. These recalls cover vehicles that may have received a replacement airbag module as part of a prior repair, as well as those with original equipment inflators, meaning prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue for all affected vehicles.
There is also a brake light concern: oil applied to the brake pedal assembly during manufacturing can migrate into the brake light switch and foul its electrical contacts, causing the brake lights to stop illuminating when the pedal is pressed. A following driver would have no warning that the vehicle is slowing down.
