Two recalls involve the 6-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission's control modules. A communication error between the engine control module and the transmission control module can prevent the transmission's park pawl from engaging when the car is parked. If the driver steps out on a slope without applying the parking brake, the vehicle can roll away. A related software issue affects how these two modules communicate when the ignition key is removed from its docking station, which can leave the transmission in an unexpected state. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this communication problem, and the two recalls reflect separate efforts to address it. There is also a door latch concern: the interior door unlocking mechanism can fail to release when the car has been locked from outside, which can trap an occupant inside the cabin.
