The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado has 7 recalls, with the most serious concerns centered on the driver's airbag, which across multiple issues may fail to deploy correctly, separate components into the cabin, or inflate improperly in a high-speed crash.
The airbag problems cover three distinct failure modes: wiring that reverses the deployment sequence, an inflator that can separate from its backplate and send steering wheel components into the cabin, and a second-stage inflation issue that can cause the bag to over- or under-inflate in a severe collision. On the steering side, a poor electrical connection inside the steering gear can cause the electric power steering to drop out, making the wheel significantly harder to turn, especially at low speeds. Seat attachment hooks on both the driver and front passenger seats may not have been properly secured to the vehicle body, meaning the seat can shift or break free in a crash. There is also a brake concern: the front calipers can develop internal air pockets that allow brake fluid to leak, extending stopping distances.
