The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette has 4 recalls, the most serious involving two distinct safety concerns: electric power steering that can stop assisting and front airbags or seatbelt pretensioners that can fail to fire in a crash.

When the electric power steering assist fails, the steering wheel becomes significantly harder to turn, particularly at low speeds in parking lots or tight corners where the assist is doing the most work. This added effort can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle's direction. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, and an additional campaign addresses the same steering system failure.

The restraint system concern follows a similar pattern: the front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy when the vehicle takes an impact that would normally trigger them. The pretensioners are the mechanism that snaps the belt tight against the occupant's chest in a crash, so if they do not fire, the belt stays loose and the airbag does not inflate, leaving the driver and front passenger with less protection at the moment they need it most. As with the steering issue, this defect was the subject of more than one filing, reflecting that the earlier remedy did not fully address all affected vehicles.
