This airbag defect is the well-known Takata inflator issue, and it applies to vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories including Florida, Texas, Hawaii, and others in that geographic zone. When the inflator ruptures, it does not simply deploy the airbag but instead bursts apart, scattering sharp metal shards toward anyone seated in the front. Multiple filings cover this same defect across overlapping model years, but the physical danger is the same in each case: a violently failing inflator in a situation where an occupant expects protection. This is among the more dangerous defects seen in modern recalls, and the geographic scoping means that vehicles that have ever been registered in those humid regions qualify, even if the truck has since moved elsewhere.

The fourth recall involves fire extinguishers installed in certain Silverado HD trucks. Some of these units, depending on handle type, can fail to discharge properly when needed, leaving the driver without a functioning extinguisher during a vehicle fire.
