The 1983 Chrysler New Yorker has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate brake system concerns where hydraulic brake lines can wear through or leak, reducing stopping power.
On one brake issue, the rear brake tubes can rub against the rear suspension brackets, gradually wearing through the tubing and causing a partial loss of braking. On the other, a brake line can contact an exhaust hanger bolt and eventually develop a leak, also reducing braking capability; if this happens, the brake warning light on the dashboard will alert the driver. There is also a fuel system concern: the electric fuel filler door release uses a solenoid that can develop loose mounting screws and an internal short circuit, allowing electrical arcing at the attachment points, which raises the risk of fire.
