16 recalls across 12 model years
The Chrysler Town and Country has 16 recalls spanning the 2008–2018 model years, with the most serious recent issue being a wiring defect on 2017–2018 models where a front underhood wiring fault can stall the engine while driving, raising the risk of a crash.
The 2015–2016 model years carry several notable issues. The automatic transmission pump can seize and cut hydraulic pressure, causing the vehicle to lose drive power without warning. On some 2015–2016 examples, the windshield may have been installed with expired primer, allowing it to separate from the body in a crash and leaving occupants exposed. A separate 2016 issue involves hood striker bolts that can loosen and let the hood fly open while driving, blocking the driver's view entirely. A narrow batch of 2016 vehicles also has third-row seatback nuts that were under-torqued and can work loose, allowing the seatback to separate from the seat frame in a crash. Some 2014–2016 models equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers may have units that fail to discharge when needed.
The 2013 model year has an airbag software error that can deploy the airbags on the wrong side of the vehicle during a side impact, leaving the struck occupant without any airbag protection. On 2012 models, a right rear hub and bearing assembly that was not fully machined can fail prematurely and cause wheel separation. A separate 2012 issue involves a power liftgate pinch sensor that may not stop the gate from closing on a hand or arm.
Going further back, 2011 models may have a missing or incorrectly installed steering column pivot rivet, which can reduce the column's ability to manage crash forces and diminish the effectiveness of the front airbags. The 2010 model year has an ignition key that can slip from the run position to accessory while driving, shutting off the engine and disabling power steering and brakes. On 2008–2010 vehicles, a loose or missing steering wheel emblem can send the emblem or its mounting hardware into the cabin when the driver airbag deploys. The 2008–2009 model years have an airbag control unit that can corrode and fail, preventing airbag deployment in a crash. The 2008 model year alone has an HVAC drain grommet that can leak water into the airbag control system, triggering an unintended airbag deployment. Certain 2010–2015 vehicles converted for wheelchair accessibility have wheelchair restraint latches that may not hold the chair securely during transit, and some 2010 wheelchair-accessible models have seat-to-floor bolts that can break in a crash.
