Summary
The Chrysler Town and Country has 9 recalls spanning the 2007–2016 production run, with the most serious being a 2013 model year airbag software error that deploys airbags on the opposite side of a collision, leaving the occupant at the point of impact with no protection.
The 2015–2016 model years have a windshield bonding issue where expired urethane primer was used during installation, allowing the windshield to separate from the body in a crash and raise the risk of occupant injury. On 2012 models, a right rear hub and bearing assembly that was not fully machined can eventually fail and cause wheel separation while driving. There is also a 2012-specific power liftgate pinch sensor that can fail to stop the door from closing, applying excess force against a hand or other appendage caught in its path.
The 2011 model year has a steering column pivot rivet that may be missing or incorrectly installed, weakening the column's ability to stay in position during a frontal crash and reducing the effectiveness of the restraint system. On 2010 models, the ignition key can inadvertently shift from the run position to accessory while driving, cutting power to the engine without warning. A separate 2010 concern affects wheelchair-accessible versions only, where the floor attachment bolts for removable seats can break in a crash and allow the seat to come free. Going back to 2008–2010 models, a loose or missing steering wheel emblem can turn into a projectile during driver airbag deployment. The 2008 model year also has an HVAC drain grommet that can leak water into the airbag control system, triggering an unintended airbag deployment while the vehicle is in normal use.
