The 1991 Chrysler New Yorker has 4 recalls, with two serious issues: an anti-lock brake system hose that can leak or detach and drain hydraulic fluid, and a cowl area fire risk from corroded heater blower wiring.
When the ABS high-pressure hose loses fluid, the vehicle loses both anti-lock braking and the hydraulic brake assist, increasing the chance of wheel lockup and longer stopping distances. Separately, water that seeps under the windshield cowl can corrode the heater blower motor resistor terminals, raising electrical resistance until the wiring connectors and insulation overheat and catch fire. On the restraint side, the front outboard seatbelt buckles can become difficult to latch or unlatch because the webbing stiffener works its way into the buckle housing and dislodges the latch guide, and the belt can pop open or only partially engage during a sudden stop or crash.
