The 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser has 7 recalls, with the most serious being multiple fire risks tied to fuel and power steering fluid leaks that can ignite under the hood or during a rollover.
Two separate fuel system issues can cause leaks: the fuel supply line can chafe against the air conditioning tube service port and wear through, and the fuel pump module flange can crack in a frontal collision or leak in a rollover. Either condition can expose fuel to an ignition source and start a fire. On vehicles with the 2.4L non-turbocharged engine and automatic transmission, the high-pressure power steering hose can rub against the transmission differential cover, wear through, and spray fluid onto hot engine components, also creating a fire risk. The remaining recall involves the right rear center child seat anchor, which was made with a wire slightly too thick to meet federal standards, meaning a clip-style child restraint may not attach securely and could fail to hold the child in a crash.
