A separate engine concern involves wheel bolts that may not have been torqued to the correct specification, which can allow a wheel to separate from the vehicle without warning. On the structural side, a pad inside each door's side impact beam was installed in the wrong position during manufacturing, which means the doors may not provide adequate protection in a side collision. There is also a safety equipment issue: if a crash occurs without the airbags deploying, the airbag cover on the passenger side can strike the front passenger's head with greater force than regulations allow, raising the risk of head injury.
