The 2018 Fiat 124 Spider has two recalls, the more serious being an airbag control module software error that can cause the front airbags to deploy with excessive force in a crash, raising the risk of injury to the driver and passenger. On the drivetrain side, this recall only affects automatic transmission models: a programming error in the transmission control module can cause the car to unexpectedly downshift and decelerate sharply, which may catch following traffic off guard and increase the risk of a rear-end collision.
