The 2005 Ford E-450 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a wheelchair lift that may not detect a user on the platform and can move unexpectedly, putting the person on the lift at risk of a fall or injury.
The lift's anti-stow interlock, which is supposed to prevent the platform from folding or stowing while someone is on it, can fail to register the presence of a wheelchair or mobility aid user. On certain ambulance builds, a backup camera monitor can display a mirrored or incorrect image, causing the driver to steer in the wrong direction when reversing and raising the risk of a collision with objects or people behind the vehicle. There is also a label issue affecting cut-away truck versions equipped with LT225/75R16E tires: the tire pressure listed on the door jamb label for the rear tires is wrong, and running the tires at that stated pressure means they cannot support the full rated load on the rear axle, which can lead to tire failure under heavy use.
