The 2006 Ford E-450 has 6 recalls, all involving aftermarket equipment, with the most serious being multiple wheelchair lift defects that can injure passengers during loading, unloading, or unintended movement.
Several recalls cover wheelchair lift systems installed by different upfitters. Roll stop latches on certain Braun lifts can bend or misalign, allowing a wheelchair to ride over the barrier and off the platform. On lifts made by Ricon Corporation, the platform side plates can crack and cause the lift platform to separate and fall against the vehicle door. Two additional recalls cover Ricon lifts where the anti-stow interlock may fail to detect a person on the platform, meaning the lift can begin folding away while someone is still on it. All of these lift recalls affect vehicles that were modified by specialty converters, not the base Ford chassis itself. There is also a visibility concern on certain ambulance conversions: a backup camera monitor can display a mirror-reversed image, causing the driver to steer the wrong direction when reversing.
