The 2009 Ford Edge has 7 recalls, the most serious being a Takata airbag defect where both the driver and front passenger airbag inflators can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Both front airbag inflators are affected: the passenger side and driver side inflators can rupture or explode on deployment, scattering sharp metal fragments toward occupants. This risk is heightened in vehicles that have spent time in high-humidity, high-temperature regions, though multiple filings cover a broad range of geographic areas.
The other significant concern involves the fuel tank. Corrosion can develop at the weld seams beneath the fuel tank mounting brackets, particularly on vehicles exposed to road salt over many winters. A corroded tank can leak fuel, and if that fuel contacts an ignition source, a fire can result. This issue is most relevant to vehicles registered in northern states and Canadian provinces where road salt is regularly used.
