Summary
The Ford F-250 Super Duty has 13 recalls spanning 2004 through 2025, with the most serious recent issue being a 2025 model year rear driveshaft that can separate due to a weld defect, cutting power to the wheels and raising the risk of a crash.
The 2025 model year has a second powertrain concern: the shifter can detach from the steering column, preventing the transmission from being moved into park and allowing the truck to roll if the parking brake is not set. On 2023 models with a single rear wheel and 10.5-inch rear axle, the left-rear axle shaft can fracture and drop drive power, and a parked truck without the parking brake engaged can roll away. The 2023 model year also has two recalls where earlier repair attempts did not fully resolve the original problems: a software fault can display the wrong rearview camera image while backing up, and the automatic window reversal system may fail to detect an obstruction and continue closing on a person. Moving back to 2020, the windshield may not be properly bonded and can detach in a crash, and the wiper arms can slip out of position and leave portions of the windshield uncleared in wet conditions. On 2019 models, an electrical fault in the rearview camera can distort or blank the image entirely while reversing. The 2016 model year has a steering wheel clockspring wiring issue that can disconnect the driver's front airbag, disable the horn, and cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate. Going further back, 2008 models with the 6.4L diesel can build excessive heat in the diesel particulate filter and push visible flames out the tailpipe, which can ignite nearby combustible material or injure anyone standing close. On 2004 models with the 6.0L diesel, fuel injection wiring can chafe against an engine bolt and a sensor connector can lose its signal, disrupting engine management. Certain 2004 King Ranch and Lariat 4x4 single-rear-wheel trucks were fitted with tires carrying an incorrect load rating, which can result in a tire being overloaded. A separate 2004 issue involves an airbag warning label where the French-language text was incomplete relative to the English version.
