Summary
The Ford F-59 has 11 recalls spanning 2011 through 2026, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2025-2026 models where a front axle hub assembly may be missing the spindle nut, which can cause wheel detachment and complete loss of vehicle control.
On 2022 models, three separate issues can rob the driver of steering or braking: a steering wheel attachment bolt can loosen and let the wheel separate from the column, a loose intermediate steering shaft bolt (also affecting 2020-2021) can disconnect the shaft from the gear box and eliminate steering input entirely, and rear brake caliper bolts that are not properly torqued can allow the caliper to shift and damage the wheel or brake lines, reducing braking performance. The 2021-2022 model years also have a fuel tank weld seam where the paint can peel, expose bare metal to corrosion, and allow fuel to leak near ignition sources. On 2020-2021 vehicles, insufficient rear axle lubricant can damage the wheel bearings and cause rear axle or driveshaft failure, cutting drive power and disabling the parking brake.
The 2024 model year has a software issue where the instrument panel cluster fails to display the correct transmission gear position, making it unclear what gear the transmission is actually in. The 2023 model year has a corrosion problem in the data connector that can knock out the entire instrument panel, taking the speedometer and warning lights with it.
Going back to 2017, certain ABS-equipped vehicles have anti-lock brake control units that may be missing internal valve plugs, which can let brake fluid leak or allow air into the system and extend stopping distances. The 2014 model year, covering a narrow window of production, can have incorrectly machined brake calipers that leak fluid and increase pedal travel. Earlier production from 2011-2014 has an electrical junction block that can short circuit against its mounting bracket in wet, salty conditions and start a fire.
