The 2000 Ford F-750 has two recalls of equal concern: a steering drag link that can wear prematurely and cause partial loss of control of the right front wheel, and an anti-lock brake system that can temporarily cut braking to one or more wheels for several seconds.
On the steering side, the drag link ball socket wears down and reduces the driver's ability to steer the right front wheel, raising the risk of a crash. On the brake side, the anti-lock brake computer can misread signals from the wheel sensors, either because a sensor cable has chafed through and touched a rotating part or because a tone ring has shifted and been damaged. When this happens, the system may drop braking force at one or more wheels briefly, reducing stopping ability at a moment when full braking is needed.
