The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E has 9 recalls, the most serious involving the high-voltage battery's main contactors overheating and cutting power to the wheels without warning, raising the risk of a crash. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue for some vehicles, requiring a second fix.
The brakes carry two related concerns: a wrong over-the-air software update sent to the anti-lock braking system can disable power brake assist, making the pedal significantly harder to press and extending stopping distances, while also knocking out stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and automatic emergency braking. As with the battery issue, an earlier repair attempt was not completed correctly on some vehicles and requires a second visit. On the structural side, both the panoramic roof glass panel and the windshield may not be properly bonded; the roof glass can detach while driving and become a road hazard, and the windshield can separate in a crash. Rear seatbelt buckles on certain vehicles can pull free from the floor in a crash, leaving rear passengers unrestrained. There is also an electrical concern where door latches can remain locked after occupants leave the vehicle, preventing doors from being opened from outside and potentially trapping anyone unable to use the interior handle.
