The 2011 Ford Taurus has 4 recalls, the most serious involving exterior lighting components that can corrode and short circuit, raising the risk of a vehicle fire. This recall applies to vehicles registered in certain northern and midwestern states where road salt and moisture accelerate the corrosion.
On the safety equipment side, the driver's frontal airbag can inflate improperly during the second stage of deployment in a high-speed crash, which raises the risk of injury rather than reducing it. There is also a concern with the electric power steering system: it can lose assist unexpectedly, requiring significantly more effort to steer, particularly at low speeds where the effect is most pronounced. Separately, an interior door handle return spring can unseat and leave the handle partially extended; if that happens, a side impact can cause the door to unlatch during the crash.
