The 2010 Ford Taurus has 5 recalls, the most serious being a corrosion issue in the license plate lamp assembly that can cause a short circuit and start a fire.
The fire risk applies to vehicles in states and provinces where road salt is used heavily in winter, as moisture and salt corrode the lamp wiring and draw excessive electrical current. On the door hardware side, the interior door handle return spring can unseat and leave the handle sitting out of its stowed position; in a side-impact crash, this can allow the door to unlatch and open. There is also a frontal airbag concern: the driver's airbag can inflate improperly during the second stage of deployment in a high-speed crash, which raises the risk of injury rather than reducing it.
