The 1984 GMC C Series has 4 recalls, with the most serious being a steering defect on certain C30 trucks where a tie rod can separate without warning, causing sudden loss of steering control.
Two recalls involve fire and fuel risks. On certain propane-fueled C20 trucks, a cracked fitting on the fuel fill line can allow propane to escape during refueling, creating a fire hazard. Separately, certain vehicles have a fuel tank that does not meet fuel system integrity standards and can be punctured in a crash, raising the risk of fuel leakage. On the structural side, certain C30 trucks are also equipped with Firestone 16x6 disc wheels that can develop cracks in the rim. If the crack goes unnoticed and spreads, the wheel can split and rapidly deflate the tire, which can cause the driver to lose control.
