The 2009 GMC Savana has 6 recalls, the most serious being unused wiring for an optional rear HVAC system that can corrode and overheat, raising the risk of a fire.
On vehicles converted with Ricon S Series or K Series L-Model wheelchair lifts, the lift platform can overrun the vehicle floor level and stop at an angle steep enough to tip a wheelchair occupant or cause someone standing on the platform to fall. There is also a concern with the front passenger airbag: in a low-speed crash that does not trigger airbag deployment, an unbelted front passenger faces a higher risk of injury from striking the instrument panel. The HVAC control knobs on certain vehicles can fracture and spin freely on their shafts, leaving the driver unable to adjust heating, cooling, or ventilation. Some vehicles were equipped with fire extinguishers that may not function when needed, which could worsen a fire situation rather than help contain it.
