2007 GMC Sierra 3500

The 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 has 3 recalls, the most serious being two passenger-side frontal airbag inflator defects that can cause the inflator to rupture or explode, sending sharp metal fragments into the cabin and raising the risk of serious injury or death.

Both airbag issues involve the passenger frontal inflator, though they stem from different situations. The first covers inflators installed during original production, which can rupture in a crash deployment and throw metal fragments toward occupants. The second affects trucks where a replacement inflator was installed as part of an earlier Takata recall remedy: those interim parts used a propellant that is also prone to explosion, meaning the prior repair did not fully resolve the hazard. There is also an electrical concern specific to trucks equipped with an auxiliary battery, where a fusible link in the system can melt and make contact with nearby components, potentially damaging the electrical center cover, the wiring harness conduit, and surrounding parts in a way that raises the risk of fire.
