The 2017 GMC Sierra HD has 4 recalls, the most serious being a diesel engine stall risk and a fire risk from the optional engine block heater cable on trucks with the 6.6L Duramax diesel.
On diesel models with dual fuel tanks, the rear fuel pump may not move enough fuel to the front tank, causing the engine to hesitate, trigger the check engine light, or stall without warning and refuse to restart, raising the risk of a crash. On diesel trucks equipped with the optional block heater cable, a coolant leak or a problem with the cable terminals can cause a short circuit that may damage engine components or start a fire. Note that a prior repair attempt for the block heater issue did not fully resolve the problem, so trucks that were already serviced under an earlier recall need a second repair.
There is also a seats and restraints concern on double-cab models with a manual passenger airbag on/off switch: the front passenger seatbelt retractor may have the wrong torsion bar installed, which affects how the belt manages load in a crash.
