The 2015 GMC Sierra has 11 recalls, the most serious involving an ignition that can snap back to the accessory position and cut engine, steering, and braking power, and exhaust components that can overheat at idle and melt nearby plastic parts or cause a fire.
Several recalls are specific to HD (2500/3500) trims. Power steering hose clamps on those trucks may not hold, letting the hose pull away from the pump or steering gear and leak fluid. A separate steering recall covers a sudden loss of power steering assist that can occur at any time, with only a dashboard warning and chime as notice. HD diesel models also have two fuel leak concerns: loose fittings at the diesel transfer pump and a loose vent line clamp can each allow fuel to escape near potential ignition sources.
On the safety side, side curtain airbag inflators on certain trucks may fail in a crash and launch a metal end cap into the cabin. Rear axle shafts on certain trucks can fracture while driving, causing a rear wheel to separate from the vehicle.
