The 2011 GMC Yukon has 5 recalls, the most serious being a Takata airbag inflator that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the driver or passengers.
The airbag concern covers the front passenger inflator and applies to vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories; prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple recall campaigns exist for this defect. On the chassis side, a rear axle cross pin can fracture and shift inside the axle housing, causing sudden loss of directional control without warning. There is also a steering concern: the bolts securing the intermediate steering shaft may not have been tightened to spec, which can allow the joint to separate and leave the driver with no steering response.
