The 2006 Honda Civic has 14 recalls, the most serious being a Takata passenger-side airbag inflator that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, a risk linked to serious injuries and deaths.
Several other recalls also involve the passenger airbag. On 2-door models, a faulty sensor in the front passenger seat can fail to suppress the airbag when a small child or infant is present, meaning the bag may deploy toward a child in a crash. Additional recalls address inflators that were incorrectly installed during prior repair visits, which can cause the bag to deploy improperly.
On the throttle side, the accelerator pedal may not be properly secured at the floor mount, can come loose, and cause the throttle to stick. Hybrid models have a separate concern: a voltage converter can fail, cutting power to the headlights, stalling the engine, and leaving the vehicle unable to restart.
Two further issues affect 2-door models specifically. The rear windshield and quarter glass panels may not be properly bonded and can separate from the body while driving, posing a hazard to other traffic. Oil can also separate from grease on the steering column and drip onto the brake light switch, potentially affecting brake light function.
