The 2022 Honda Civic has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the front passenger airbag sensor and two steering defects that can each cause a sudden loss of vehicle control.
The airbag concern covers two related issues: the front passenger seat sensor may misclassify the occupant, causing the airbag to deploy unexpectedly in a crash and raising the risk of injury. On the steering side, the gearbox on certain vehicles may not function properly, producing a sudden change in steering feel and a sharp increase in the effort needed to turn the wheel. A separate steering issue affects vehicles that have already received a replacement power steering rack as a service repair: if that rack was incorrectly assembled or the wrong unit was installed, a tire can rub against the chassis or suspension components and fail, which can cause a loss of control.
