The 2009 Honda CR-V has 12 recalls, the most serious being Takata airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag concern runs deep on this vehicle. Beyond the rupture risk from the original inflators, several recalls address vehicles where replacement passenger airbag inflators were installed incorrectly, either at a dealership or through a supplier error involving the wrong wire harness. In those cases, the airbag may not deploy properly in a crash, which prior repair attempts did not fully resolve for all affected vehicles. Owners who have already had airbag work done should verify the repair was completed correctly.
On the structural side, the rear trailing arm can detach from the frame on vehicles that were sold or registered in certain northern and mid-Atlantic states where road salt is common. A detached trailing arm removes rear suspension support on one side and can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
