2021 Honda Gl1800

The 2021 Honda GL1800 has 3 recalls, all carrying serious crash risk: a crankshaft bolt that can break and instantly lock the rear wheel, an ECU software error that can cut engine power and stall the motor, and a fuel pump that can fail and kill the engine mid-ride.

The crankshaft recall affects only manual transmission models: the primary drive gear bolt can fracture, causing the engine to stall and the rear wheel to seize without warning, which on a motorcycle can result in a loss of control with very little time to react. The ECU software issue also applies to manual transmission Gold Wings, where incorrect ignition timing can cause the engine to stall, particularly at inopportune moments such as during acceleration or while navigating traffic. On the fuel side, a defect in the fuel pump impeller can cause it to warp and stop delivering fuel entirely, stalling the engine while the bike is in motion. All three defects share the same outcome: an unexpected loss of power on a motorcycle, where the consequences of a crash are far more severe than in a car.
