A related occupant safety issue involves the wiring harness for the right front passenger seatbelt tension sensor, which can wear through with repeated seatbelt use. That sensor tells the airbag system how the occupant is positioned, so if the wiring fails, the front passenger airbag may not deploy correctly in a crash, leaving the occupant with less protection than expected. On the driver's side, certain vehicles built between March and August 2007 have a power seat that can slide or recline on its own while the car is moving, without any input from the driver, which can disrupt the driver's reach to the pedals and steering wheel and raise the risk of losing control.
