The 2009 Hyundai Genesis has 5 recalls, all involving the brakes, with the most serious being underbody brake line corrosion that can cause brake fluid to leak and significantly extend stopping distances.
Two related recalls address corrosion inside the brake system's hydraulic control unit, where brake fluid that does not adequately protect against rust can allow the unit to corrode internally, leading to a soft or low brake pedal and reduced stopping power. On the lighting side, a faulty brake light switch can prevent the stop lamps from lighting up when the pedal is pressed and can also stop the cruise control from disengaging, leaving following drivers with no warning that the car is slowing. There is also a separate diode failure in the stop lamp circuit that can cause the same result: brake lights that do not illuminate during braking.
