The 2019 Hyundai Kona EV has 3 recalls, the most serious being a high-voltage battery defect that can cause a short circuit and fire while the vehicle is parked, charging, or being driven.
The battery issue covers two related problems: in one case the battery management system cannot detect the fault before a short circuit occurs, particularly after a full charge. Some vehicles that already received a battery replacement under a prior recall campaign may not require further repair under one of these filings. On the braking side, a faulty sensor signal to the electronic brake system can cause a sudden drop in braking performance, extending stopping distances and raising the risk of a collision. A warning light on the dashboard will illuminate if this brake condition occurs.
