7 recalls across 6 model years
The Hyundai Nexo has 7 recalls covering 2019 through 2024 model years, with the most serious being a thermally activated pressure relief device on 2019-2024 vehicles that can crack and release hydrogen gas, creating a fire risk even while the vehicle is parked.
Two additional hydrogen leak risks affect 2019-2021 models. The hydrogen gas detection sensors on these vehicles can fail over time and stop detecting leaks in the fuel delivery system, meaning a leak can go unnoticed while driving or parked. A separate but related issue on 2019 models involves the same type of sensor degrading to the point where the driver warning light fails to illuminate during an active leak. There is also a 2019-specific recall where a fuel system safety valve can fail due to a manufacturing defect and allow hydrogen to escape, again with fire risk present even when the vehicle is off. A fourth 2019-only issue involves the hydrogen inlet receptacle filter detaching after refueling and causing a leak.
On the non-fuel-system side, 2019-2020 models have a recall involving the integrated electronic brake system, where an abnormal sensor signal can cause the system to significantly reduce braking force, lengthening stopping distances. The 2020 model year has an additional software issue with the Remote Smart Parking Assist feature, where a system malfunction may not properly halt vehicle movement, creating an unintended rollaway risk.
