The 2019 Hyundai Nexo has 5 recalls, all centered on hydrogen fuel system defects that can lead to a fire whether the vehicle is parked or in motion. Three of the recalls involve components that can allow hydrogen to escape undetected. A safety valve may fail and leak hydrogen, a pressure relief device on the fuel tank can crack and release gas, and the inlet filter at the refueling receptacle can detach after a fill-up, each creating a potential fire risk even with the vehicle off. The remaining two recalls address the sensors that are meant to catch a leak before it becomes dangerous: one set of hydrogen gas detection sensors may fail to recognize a leak in the delivery system, and a second set can degrade over time and fail to trigger the driver warning light, leaving a fuel leak unannounced.
