The 2019 Hyundai Nexo has 6 recalls, the most serious being multiple hydrogen fuel system issues where leaking gas or failed leak detection can lead to a fire even while the vehicle is parked.
Several of these recalls address overlapping fire risks: a safety valve may fail and allow hydrogen to escape, a thermally activated pressure relief device can break and cause a leak, and a filter near the refueling inlet can detach after filling. Compounding these concerns, the sensors designed to detect a hydrogen leak can degrade or fail outright, meaning the driver warning light may never come on and a leak could go unnoticed. On the braking side, the integrated electronic brake system can misread a sensor signal and sharply reduce braking performance, extending the stopping distance and raising the risk of a crash.
