The 2021 Hyundai Nexo has two recalls, both involving hydrogen fire risks: a pressure relief device on the fuel tank can break and leak hydrogen gas, and the sensors designed to detect hydrogen leaks may fail to alert the driver to a leak in the fuel system.
Both issues can result in a fire whether the vehicle is parked or in motion. The pressure relief device is designed to vent hydrogen safely if the tank overheats, but a broken unit can release gas uncontrolled. Separately, if the leak detection sensors fail, a hydrogen leak elsewhere in the fuel delivery system goes undetected, giving neither the driver nor the vehicle's safety systems a chance to respond.
