The 2013 Hyundai Veloster has 4 recalls, the most serious being multiple fire risks: engine software faults on turbocharged models that can cause engine failure or fire, and a short circuit in the reverse parking sensor that can also ignite a fire.
The turbo engine concerns overlap in consequence: faulty engine management software can trigger premature ignition inside the cylinders, building excessive pressure that damages the engine and can lead to a stall or fire. A separate recall covers a fire risk traced to the anti-lock brake control module, which can catch fire while the car is parked or being driven. There is also a risk of liquid leaking into the reverse parking sensor and causing an electrical short that raises the fire risk further.
