The 2009 Indian Motorcycle Chief has 3 recalls, the most serious involving two separate crash risks: a side stand that can catch the ground while riding and destabilize the motorcycle, and a rear wheel rim that can crack and suddenly lose air pressure.
Both of those issues can cause the rider to lose control. On the lighting side, slowly switching between high and low beam can briefly turn both headlights on at the same time, which causes the body control module to misread the situation as an electrical overload and cut power to the headlight circuit entirely, leaving the rider without any headlight.
