The 2010 Jeep Compass has 3 recalls, all centering on the same critical safety concern: a fault in the occupant restraint control module that can prevent airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from deploying in a crash.
The module defect shows up in two related ways. A software error can delay or completely prevent the side curtain airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from firing during a rollover, leaving occupants without that protection at the moment they need it most. In a separate but related issue, the module itself can short circuit, which disables not just the side curtains and pretensioners but also the front airbags, cutting off the full restraint system in any type of crash severe enough to trigger deployment.
