The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer has 8 recalls, the most serious involving a software error that can cause the transmission gear indicator to go blank, leaving the driver without confirmation of which gear is selected and raising the risk of unintended rollaway.
Several recalls affect occupant protection in a crash. Loose upper B-pillar interior trim can block the side curtain airbag from deploying properly during a rollover or side impact, reducing the protection that keeps occupants inside the vehicle. A separate issue with the driver-side clockspring, the rotating connector that links the steering wheel to the rest of the electrical system, can prevent the driver's frontal airbag from deploying in a crash. Third-row seatbelt buckles on some vehicles are positioned in a way that makes it difficult for rear passengers to properly fasten their belts, leaving them without full restraint protection in a collision.
Rear visibility is affected by two software-related issues. In one case, radio software can prevent the rearview camera image from appearing at all when reversing. In another, the park assist module software can separately cause the same failure, with the backup image not showing when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Prior repair attempts for one of these issues may not have fully resolved the problem for all affected vehicles.
On the exterior, door trim on the driver and passenger sides can detach if not properly secured during installation, and quarter window trim on both sides has a similar attachment issue. In either case, pieces coming loose at highway speeds can become hazards for vehicles following behind.
