The 2016 Jeep Wrangler has 6 recalls, the most serious involving the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator, which can explode during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, potentially causing serious injury.
Several other recalls are specific to right-hand-drive models. On those vehicles, the clockspring assembly can fail due to debris or dust contamination, preventing the driver's airbag from deploying in a crash. The driver's seat belt buckle mounting strap can also fracture and separate from the seat frame, leaving the belt inoperable. Two separate issues can prevent the front impact sensors from signaling the restraint controller during a crash: in one case, the sensors can detach when headlamp housings rotate on impact, and in another, sensor wiring can pull free before a signal is recorded. Either way, the result is that both frontal airbags and the seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy when needed.
