The 2010 Kia Forte has 3 recalls, the most serious being a risk of engine compartment fire that can occur whether the vehicle is parked or in motion.
The fire risk stems from the anti-lock brake system's control module, which can ignite under certain conditions. The remaining two recalls both describe the same underlying airbag problem: the airbag control unit can short circuit in a crash, preventing the front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from firing when they are needed most. A pretensioner is the mechanism that snaps the seatbelt tight against the occupant's body during a collision, and without it, along with a non-deploying airbag, the driver and front passenger have significantly less protection in a serious crash.
