2013 Lexus Is 250c

The 2013 Lexus IS 250C has 3 recalls, all concerning the same defect: a passenger-side airbag inflator that can explode and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

All three recalls trace back to the same Takata airbag inflator problem. The inflator inside the passenger-side airbag can rupture with far more force than intended, scattering metal shards toward anyone seated in or near the front passenger seat. While the recalls were filed separately, they cover the same physical part and the same catastrophic failure mode. Prior repair attempts under earlier campaigns did not fully resolve the issue for all affected vehicles, which is why multiple filings exist for what is essentially one defect. Owners in high-humidity states and territories, including Florida, Hawaii, Texas, and several U.S. territories, may fall under more than one of these filings, as moisture accelerates the inflator's deterioration and raises the likelihood of an explosive rupture.
