The 2023 Lexus RZ has three recalls, all centered on the same core risk: a malfunctioning HVAC system that can leave the driver without working defrost or defog capability, reducing visibility through the windshield.
When certain HVAC faults occur, such as a failure in the electric compressor, the defroster and defogger can stop working entirely. In cold or humid conditions, this means the windshield and rear glass can fog or ice over with no way to clear them from inside the car. The dashboard may show warning messages including "EV System Malfunction" or "Drive Start Control Malfunction" when this happens. A separate recall addresses the optional Panoramic View Monitor system, where a software error can cause the rearview camera to freeze on a static image or go blank when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, leaving the driver without any view of what is directly behind the car while backing up.
