The 2007 Mazda CX-9 has 8 recalls, the most serious involving the passenger frontal airbag inflator, which can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag issue spans multiple filings, including one that covers vehicles where a prior replacement inflator of the same design was installed and still did not resolve the problem. The front suspension also has a recall: water can get into the lower ball joint, corrode it over time, and cause the front control arm to separate, resulting in sudden loss of steering control. On the electrical side, vehicles equipped with a power-adjustable seat with a memory function have a wiring harness that can chafe against a bracket, short-circuit, and raise the risk of an electrical fire.
