The 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG E63S has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a starter motor cable that can chafe nearby wiring, cause a short circuit, stall the engine while driving, and potentially start a fire.
A front passenger seat recall addresses a limiter that may allow the seat to travel too close to the frontal airbag. In that position, a deploying airbag can strike the occupant at close range rather than cushioning them, raising the risk of injury in a crash. On vehicles equipped with a heated leather steering wheel, a software issue can disable the hands-off detection feature, which knocks out connected driver assistance functions including warnings to re-grip the wheel and the automatic emergency stop system that contacts first responders if the driver becomes unresponsive. There is also a backup camera concern: the MBUX multimedia system software can cause the camera display to remain black or restart during use, leaving the driver without a rear view while reversing.
